Rob Watson - Digital Marketing Consultant & Trainer

What gets someone's attention and makes them want to buy? Having worked in marketing since 1996, I'm as fascinated by that question as I ever was. 

The rapid emergence of Digital Marketing has transformed marketing forever. Now you can deploy campaigns quickly, easily and cheaply and get real-time, detailed results.

As a Digital Marketing consultant I can help you find customers online. I like to work in a simple, Plain English way and pride myself on my ability to simplify things for my clients.

Experience

For years I managed large campaigns in print media. I did this across the Financial Services, Insurance, Utilities and Telecoms sectors.

In all of these roles numbers were king - the number of calls, enquiries, quotes or sales was measured daily - sometimes even hourly.

This obsession with numbers helped me take naturally to all things digital. I've worked on digital projects since 2003 and worked with clients on freelance projects since 2009

I've been a full-time consultant since 2016 and worked as a marketing tutor since 2005.

My tutoring work gives me regular exposure to different industries. I believe it's one of the biggest reasons that I can explain digital to people in Plain English

Education

I got a degree in Marketing in 1999. This makes me one of that rare breed of people that actually use their degree on a daily basis! 

I went on to gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing and the Diploma in Digital Marketing - both from the CIM

In my profession though, education is never-ending. The pace of change means that I couldn't do what I do without constant personal development.

I subscribe to many blogs and podcasts, regularly attend conferences and where necessary undertake specific training before I offer a service to clients. Every week I schedule time just to catch up on blogs and podcasts.

This mix of formal and informal education gives me a deep understanding of business and strategy, plus up-to-the-minute knowledge in how to implement campaigns.

What's the best way for your business to run effective Digital Marketing?

Digital Marketing is experiencing a significant skills shortage in the UK. It's vital that you get the right skills and knowledge into your business, as these skills will only continue to be in demand. I can help you achieve this and I'm flexible to work in the way that best suits you.

I'm always happy to help you in the way that best suits your budget and resources. For some clients I work on a retained basis because that's simple and transparent for them. If you want to build the skills of your own marketing team rather than be dependent on a consultant or agency, that could be best for your business in the long-term.

Done for  you

Most of my clients just want me to do their marketing for them.

I work with you to understand your business, give you some recommendations. Then I implement them and report back regularly on progress. 

We'll typically work on a retainer basis and agree the actions for each month.

Done with you

You may already have your own marketing staff. If so, you might not want the cost of a retainer contract with me.

Instead, I can work with your team on specific projects on a short-term basis. This will build the skills of your team at a more manageable cost.

Done by you

Your marketing team might need in-depth training in specific skills such as SEO or AdWords so that they can manage these activities on their own, quickly.  

I can provide training for them, either as an in-house course at your premises, or as part of a scheduled course with other delegates.
